2.      Mechanical Object – Brought to Life!

  • Note: Must be handed in before you start creating the model or it will receive 50%!


  • Your design and drawing should be fairly complicated.


  • Your design will NOT use bones so plan out your joints carefully.

·         Part 2 – Create your Mechanical Object


·         Note: You must have your Character Model Sheet marked before you begin modeling.


·         Your design should be fairly complicated.


·         Your design will NOT use bones so plan out your joints carefully.


·         Add appropriate textures and UVW maps as necessary.





4.      Part 3 – Bring your Modelled Character alive:


·         Animate the Mechanical Object and bring it Alive.





5.      Bonus – Do the other Character that you didn't do above. 


·         Model and Animate.

·         Model sheet recommended but not required.




Mesh Modeling – Human Head & Lip Sync



6.       Model a Human Head

·         In this assignment you will be creating a Human Head using the mesh modeling method. 

·         Your model does not need to look exactly like the tutorial but it should show be a deliberate creation vs. an accident.




7.      Animating the Human Head

·         Follow the tutorial to animate you modeled human head

·         See sample by JFigueroa

·         See Youtube Part 1 and Part 2

·         Add lip-sync sound – At least 10 words.

·         Render out a short animation.





8.      Add Realistic Textures & Hair

·         Add realistic skin – see the Internet for tutorials

·         Add hair – see Help Tutorials for hair

·         Render out your lip sync animation with textures & hair





Game Character Modeling / Texturing / Animating



9.      Create the Tomb Raider Character

·         Follow the Tutorial

·         Render out a picture and submit




10.  Texture the Tomb Raider Character

·         Follow the Tutorial

·         Render out a picture and submit




11.  Animating the Tomb Raider Character

·         Follow the Tutorial

·         Render out an animation 720 x 486




Reactor Cloth



12.  Reactor - Cloth


·         Follow the tutorial and learn how to work with cloth.

·         NOTE: For full marks you must create a short animation demonstrating your knowledge and creativity, such as a cape on your Tomb Raider Character as she walks.







13.  Animation Portfolio

·         This will be a series of your animations.

·         Use Windows Movie Maker to assemble all your BEST animations with music and sound effects. 

·         Save the Movie Maker file as Portfolio Level C and also render out the movie to that name.

·         Note: Can add to your level B and/or A

·         Email this file to your teacher for marking


·         Evaluation

·         /5  – Include all of your best animations (at least 5).

·         /5 – Include title at beginning and ending credits that include the following:

o   Your Name

o   This has been a MBSS Computer Animation Production

o   Credit to any material used that is not yours such as music/meshes/etc.

·         /2.5  – Include background music

·         /2.5 – Include transitions (95% cuts or fades)

·         /5  – Include at least 5 sound effects


·         Note: You may use Premier Pro if you prefer it to Movie Maker

14.  Other Tutorial or Creation – See Instructor for Ideas


·         You must talk to the Instructor before you begin!

·         This should be something that will take 3-4 classes to complete.


Some Ideas:

·         Expand on a previous assignment.

·         Look at the Fx Tutorials and pick some tutorials you have never done.

·         Look at the Internet for 3dsMax tutorials.

·         Create a tutorial.

·         See the Instructor for ideas.





15.  Create a Tutorial

·         Look through the Fx Tutorials and see what tutorials need work

·         Or add a different tutorial of some technique you have learn.

·         Or see your Instructor for ideas for a tutorial.
